There are 19 days left before the Daley’s will be packed and on the road in a 36-foot travel trailer with our 4 kids and hit the road on an epic business and personal adventure around the outer edge of the US.
“Is this place better because we have been here?” This is a question we are asking our kids often. We are a larger family by today’s standards and so when we are all together we have kind of a large imprint. We can easily take up an entire aisle at the grocery store or block traffic at the airport with just two of us stopping to tie our shoes. Excitement is something we usually need to contain, because when 4 kids are all excited it can become a mob really quick. When we are invited over to someones house for dinner we are always saying don’t mob-rush the food. This is partly because 3 of our kids are middle school boys that never seem to have enough to eat and partly because there is just a sheer number.
Another sheer volume problem is around the house. If one person leaves a dirty sock on the floor its really no big deal, but if all four kids leave one out, then we have a mess. Add skateboards, bikes, toys, endless cups of water, granola bar wrappers and our clean house can be transformed to something that should be condemned in minutes. It was these two pain points that birthed Team Daley’s value of, “Make it Better.” We also borrowed this from Andy Stanley’s list of values from North Point Community Church, but we love it and it fits. Make it better is all about leaving a place better because you were there. If we all picked up something as we walked by it rather than leave it, then the house would go from condemned to clean in minutes as well. Many hands make very light work.
This trip around the country is going to put us in many different houses, campsites, churches, stores, museums, etc. We pray all these environments will be better because we have been there.
